Designer In Focus: Carla Suttor, Founder & Designer of JEUDE Official
In an industry often driven by trends and reinvention, Carla Suttor is creating something far more meaningful - a return to self. Through JEUDE Official, the founder and designer has built a brand grounded in individuality, heritage and quiet strength, where clothing becomes more than what we wear; it becomes ritual, reflection and personal expression.
Designed with intention for the woman who knows her story, JEUDE’s refined pieces embody a sense of modern femininity that feels both timeless and deeply personal. Rooted in culture, mindful dressing and holistic strength, the brand invites women to reconnect with themselves through fashion that honours the body, the moment and the emotion behind every piece.
For this edition of Designer In Focus, Love Story Magazine sits down with Carla Suttor to discuss the philosophy behind JEUDE, the power of intentional design and why fashion can be one of the most intimate forms of storytelling.
JEUDE Official Designer Carla Suttor
JEUDE is described as a space where clothing becomes ritual. How do you define “ritual” in the context of modern dressing?
To me, ritual is about consistency and identity. It’s the pieces you return to - whether that’s because of how a fabric feels on your skin, or because a particular silhouette makes you feel like yourself. In a modern context, where trends move quickly, ritual is what cuts through that. It’s what feels natural and lasting. Jeude is designed to sit in that space - where clothing isn’t reactive, or worn just because everyone else is wearing it, but chosen with intention. Pieces that become part of you.
Your pieces feel deeply rooted in identity and heritage. How has your personal story shaped the foundation of JEUDE?
Growing up in Tasmania in the 80s, and I didn’t always feel like I had the space to fully embrace my Sri Lankan heritage. That experience shaped how I see identity - what we reveal, what we hold back, and how those parts of ourselves evolve over time. That perspective naturally became the foundation of Jeude. My mum migrated to Tasmania alone at 17, and her quiet strength has always influenced how I see resilience and culture. Jeude is an extension of that - rooted in heritage and shaped by the stories we carry. It’s about honouring where we come from in a way that feels personal, subtle, and true.
There’s a strong sense of quiet strength in your collections. What does strength look like to you in the language of design?
There’s definitely a strong sense of quiet strength in the collections. To me, it isn’t about being the loudest voice in the room - it’s about having the confidence to stand your ground, and the clarity to walk away when something doesn’t feel right. That’s something I’ve really come into in my 40s - learning to trust myself and stay true to who I am, even if it means not being a part of everything. That perspective naturally translates into our design process, where quiet strength is expressed through pieces that feel bold, yet grounded and considered.
JEUDE speaks to the woman who is “finding herself” rather than reinventing, how does this philosophy influence the way you approach each collection?
The idea of “finding herself” rather than reinventing is a big part of how we approach each collection. We’re not focused on starting over each season, but on refining and evolving what already exists. Each collection builds on the last, creating a wardrobe that feels continuous, considered and lived-in. I think when you’re not focused on trends, that evolution happens naturally.
How do you balance timelessness with modernity when creating pieces intended to feel both current and enduring?
For us, timelessness and modernity go hand in hand. We’re not chasing trends, but creating pieces that feel right now and still feel right years later. If the foundation is strong - cut, fabric quality and silhouette - those things tend to age well
In a world of fast fashion and constant change, how do you encourage women to reconnect with a more mindful, intentional way of dressing?
Everything moves so quickly, fashion included. Instead of trying to keep up with that pace we encourage woman to slow down and tune into what actually feels right for them. It’s more about choosing the pieces that feel comfortable and aligned with who they are, rather than what’s trending. At JEUDE we created pieces that woman can return to - things that feel easy to wear, that don’t require overthinking. When you have that kind of relationship with your wardrobe everything feels more instinctive and more personal. It’s less about having more, and more about having the right pieces.
Can you share the role that culture and heritage play in your design process and storytelling?
Culture and heritage have played a big role in shaping Jeude’s storytelling from the beginning. It’s about celebrating where I come from, which has come from a place of acceptance and deeper appreciation over time. It’s the backbone of Jeude’s “why,” but in a subtle way. I don’t want it to feel limited to my own cultural story - my hope is that when women wear Jeude, they feel a connection to their own story and sense of self. Culture and heritage are a subtle but grounding influence in the design process. So it’s not about recreating the past, but about honouring it in a way that feels current and personal.
What does “Your story, worn your way” mean to you, and how do you see your clients interpreting this through JEUDE?
To me, “Your story, worn your way” is about individuality and honesty. It’s about wearing something in a way that feels true to you, rather than being influenced by expectations or trends. I think for our customers, it’s something they will interpret in their own way, but I think it’s more of a feeling than something literal. It’s choosing pieces that feel like them - comfortable, grounding and easy to wear - especially though different stages of life
How do you envision JEUDE evolving within the bridal and occasion wear space, particularly for women seeking something deeply personal and non-traditional?
Marriage extends far beyond the ceremony, and our pieces are designed to move with you through that whole time. The moments before, the days after. The honeymoon - when everything feels a little softer and relaxed. Jeude naturally sits in that space, reflecting the ease, confidence, and happiness of stepping into something new, in a way that feels personal and true to you.
When a woman wears JEUDE, how do you want her to feel, not just outwardly, but internally?
When a woman wears JEUDE, I want her to feel like herself - comfortable, confident and completely at ease. Nothing performative, just an internal sense of feeling right in what she’s wearing. A grounded confidence where she’s not trying to be anything other than who she is.
