In Focus | Photographer Mikey Andersson

Australian based Fashion, Portrait and Wedding Photographer Mikey Andersson was one of the very first photographers to work with The Wedding Series back in 2015 when the business was just starting.

Northern NSW based Mikey, developed a love for photography as a young child and has travelled the globe working as a fashion and portrait photographer. It is this experience that brings another level to his wedding photography work.

The Wedding Series Founder and Editor Kate O’Shea spoke with Mikey about his photography style and his process when creating his stunning wedding photography.

1)   How would you best describe your photography style?

I have a background in fashion and portraiture photography and I draw on this when photographing a wedding. I love how Authentic photographing a wedding is, capturing organic moments is very inspiring to me. I appreciate light and have a great understanding of how it can evoke emotion in an image.

2)   How do you work with couples? How would you best describe the photography planning process once a wedding couple book you?

Meeting in person (if possible) and developing a relationship with a couple prior to their wedding day is very important to me, as it allows me to gain an understanding of their personalities, get to know their likes and dislikes as well as build trust. I request couples fill out a questioner about their day, which includes a schedule and any specific requests so that we can tailor a plan for the day.

3)  Do you recommend a couple do a pre wedding photo shoot with you? Do you think it makes a difference to the quality / candidness of the wedding day photography?

A pre wedding shoot is highly recommended as it is such a nice way to get to know one and other. It is also a great way of getting used to being in-front of the camera in an environment where there is no pressure of a timeframe or hundreds of guests.

4)  How would you describe your working style? Do you prefer to blend into the background to capture candid moments, or do you like to be more visible and take charge to choreograph images?

I really like to have a balance of images that are planned and candid. I like to capture the important milestones in a wedding while also capturing the emotional responses to them. I am comfortable taking charge and giving direction when needed, however, I prefer to blend into the background and capture the magical moments.

5)  What sort of packages do you offer? Do you offer film also or work with a film partner?

I offer a flexible range of packages that can be tailored to suit specific needs. I only shoot still photography. I have a couple of very talented cinematographers that I usually team up with whenever someone requests film.

6)  Where are you based and how far will or have you travelled for a booking before?

I am based in the Northern Rivers area of NSW. But I do travel happily and often for work.

7)   Are there any tips you would give couples looking to secure their wedding photographer?

Apart from obviously liking their work. I think the best advise I could give is to make sure that you book someone that you have a good connection with. Your photographer will play a huge roll in your wedding. Apart from documenting the whole day, he or she will also be the one that will lead you through the day and you need to feel that you can trust your photographer
