What’s the one thing that gets me really excited about place settings? Gorgeous dinnerware! From ornate patterns, fancy flatware, coloured glassware and elaborate charger plates – I just can’t get enough of it!

My love affair with dinnerware began when I was an aspiring event planner, trawling through lust worthy images of table settings so perfect I would be mesmerised.  I would spend hours (and still do!), flicking through the pages of coffee table books by those I consider the great masters – namely Alberto Pinto and CarolyneRoehm. Their ability to add texture, colour and pattern in a cohesive and often unexpected manner is simply stunning, and not easily recreated. It is true artistry in every sense of the form – a skill refined over many years of memorable events.

Traditionally table tops have usually featured all-matching collections, yet more and more we are seeing contrasting china, a mix of colour, texture and pattern, along with unique vintage finds to create both sophisticated and eclectic table settings.

Another key element to the contemporary place setting is layering. Charger plates with dinner and entrée plates stacked on top will create a stunning visual statement, adding texture to your table. And the addition of a coloured pressed glass, or elegant cut crystal, will complete the look perfectly.

Even if your budget will only allow for one or two of these elements, being playful and thoughtful with your dinnerware will offer a beautiful visual impact that will seriously impress your guests.
